How we can help

Our legal services cover the issues families face most. Choose the area that matches what you are dealing with.

Children
Unmarried Couples
Wills & probate
Mental capacity

Divorce and separation

Since April 2022 divorce in England and Wales has been no fault, so neither of you has to blame the other. Our divorce solicitors guide you through divorce proceedings from the divorce application to the conditional order and final order, including civil partnership dissolution and same-sex divorce. Where neither party disputes the divorce, we offer fixed fees: £650 plus VAT if you are applying, and £350 plus VAT if you are responding. The court fee is paid separately.

Financial settlements

Who keeps the house, how pensions and savings are shared and whether maintenance is paid are decided separately from the divorce itself. We help you reach a fair financial settlement, put it into a consent order so it is legally binding, and represent you in financial remedy proceedings if agreement cannot be reached.

Children

If you cannot agree where your children will live or how much time they spend with each parent, we can help. We advise on child arrangements, parental responsibility, child arrangements orders, prohibited steps and specific issue orders, and the rights of grandparents. The welfare of your children stays at the centre of every decision.

Unmarried couples

Couples who live together do not have the same legal protection as married couples when they separate. We advise on disputes over a shared home under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 (TOLATA), what happens if you paid towards a house but are not on the deeds, and cohabitation agreements that set out who owns what.

Wills and probate

A will makes sure the people you choose are provided for and names guardians for young children. Your will is written by a regulated firm of solicitors. When someone has died, we can apply for the grant of probate and deal with the estate for you.

Mental capacity and deputyship

If a family member can no longer make decisions for themselves and has no lasting power of attorney, someone may need to apply to the Court of Protection to become their deputy. We guide families through the deputyship application and the duties that follow.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the things people ask before getting in touch.

  • When should I speak to a family law solicitor?

As early as you can. Many people contact us before they have decided to divorce, simply to understand their options and where they would stand. Getting advice early means you can plan, protect your position and move forward at your own pace.

  • How much does a divorce cost?

Where neither party disputes the divorce, our fixed fee is £650 plus VAT if you are applying and £350 plus VAT if you are responding. The applicant also pays the court fee, which is currently £628. Sorting out finances or arrangements for children is separate work, and we will give you a clear estimate before anything starts.

  • How long does a divorce take?

Under the no fault divorce process there is a minimum of 20 weeks between the divorce application and applying for the conditional order, then a further 6 weeks and 1 day before you can apply for the final order. Most divorces take at least seven months, and often longer if finances need to be settled first.

  • Are finances dealt with at the same time as my divorce?

No. The divorce ends the marriage, but it does not settle money or property. A financial settlement is dealt with separately, usually through a consent order approved by the court. It is often sensible to have your financial order in place before the final order is made, especially where pensions are involved.

  • Can I get divorced without a solicitor?

Yes. You can apply for a divorce online yourself. Many people still take legal advice, particularly when there is a house, pensions or children to agree on, because those decisions are hard to undo later.

  • Do you offer legal aid?

No, we do not offer legal aid at any of our offices. We offer fixed fees wherever we can and explain our costs before you commit to anything. If you think you may qualify for legal aid, you can check at gov.uk/check-legal-aid.

  • Will I have to go to court?

Not always. Many family matters are resolved by agreement or through mediation, and in most cases you must attend a mediation information meeting before applying to court about children or finances. If court is needed, we will prepare you for each stage and represent you.
